The ETSU Mandolin Orchestra will perform at St. John's Episcopal Church (500 N. Roan St. in Johnson City, TN) on Wednesday, November 8 at 6pm. This group is led by Dr. Lee Bidgood, and is made up of students and faculty from ETSU's Bluegrass, Old Time, and Country Music Studies program. The ensemble uses the instruments of the mandolin family to perform music from the golden age of fretted-instrument orchestras in the US and Europe (ca. 1900) as well as music from the present and from places farther afield. This concert will include some chestnutes from the repertory, as well as three pieces composed by ETSU faculty member Adam Tanner, pieces from Tchaikovsky's "Nutcracker Suite," and an 8-part setting of the German Christmas hymn "Von Himmel Hoch" by Michael Praetorius. The concert is free, with donations accepted to support our fund established to buy instruments for the orchestra.
